Mostra uma imagem microscópica do Thiocystis, uma bactéria vermelha sulfúrica . Ela é encontrada em sedimentos acima da zona reduzida. Ela oxida sulfeto de hidrogênio, produzindo enxofre básico que é depositado dentro da célula da bactéria como grânulo de enxofre. Formas agregadas e individuais dessas células são sempre difíceis de distinguir. A natureza celular desses agregados é difícil de determinar na primeira olhada. Este detalhe mostra que a massa é feita de células individuais e as células têm inclusões granulares |
